Washington, DC -- Building on the success of its popular social search platform, DC-based Searchles said that it has launched its new Twicsy Twitter photo search engine, which now features several dozen perspectives of Monday afternoon's Metro crash. The photos, all culled from Twitter photo sites TwitPic and yFrog, show close-up views of the wreckage, as well as scenes from Metro stations and even a passing MARC commuter train. Searchles founder and CTO Chris Seline said his company came up with the idea for Twicsy -- which debuted in a soft launch last Thursday -- after realizing there were no other Twitter picture searches that didn't rely on Twitter's limited application programming interface (API), used to help third-party developers build new services. "I saw that as an opportunity and we created Twicsy in about two weeks using the Searchles search and contextual technology, then let it index pictures for about six weeks before we launched it," said Seline. Photos of the Metro crash then began showing up just minutes after the incident.
